SARP Award of the Year 2023

SARP Award of the Year for Microtenement House – Best Single-Family Building in Poland 2022.

The SARP Award of the Year is one of the most important architectural awards in Poland. It is awarded for a building or a group of buildings of significant architectural value built on the territory of the Republic of Poland and handed over for use in the previous calendar year.

During a gala ceremony at the Zamoyski Palace in Warsaw on 12 May 2023, the architectural awards for the best realisations in Poland in 2022 were presented. In the Single-Family Residential Building category, the award went to Microtenement House designed by BXB studio Bogusław Barnaś.

The Jury’s justification reads:

The award was given for excellent use of a difficult and narrow plot proving that a limited building footprint is not an obstacle to creating attractive architecture. A special feature of this building is its flexibility and variability of space, as well as its intelligent functional layout with the ability to adapt to the needs of users. Despite its small scale, the building can adapt to several different functional variants with very little interference in the building structure. Noteworthy is the dynamic, innovative façade highlighted by minimalist detailing and surprising chiaroscuro. A characteristic element of the façade is the very carefully and innovatively laid bricks that define the street frontage.
