The design philosophy with regards to „The Polish Farmhouse” project places great emphasis on the relationship between man and nature with reference to place, history and tradition. This relationship stems from exploring the cultural context, and as well involving contemporary structure and design.
Philosophy
At BXBstudio we design buildings that are both, modern and routed in tradition. This combination allows us to create interesting design shapes like ”The Polish Farmhouse”, where in the place of five outbuildings we designed five ”Polish Barns”, and these barns create an interesting space. On one side it creates a courtyard together with an existing, historical house, over 100 years old, and on the opposite side these barns open up onto a beautiful landscape. The old house has become a party or hobby place and can serve as a house for guests. The new family house (Polish Barns) has a unique layout consisting of a garage and a gym on the road side, an entrance space and kitchen on the courtyard side, children and study rooms beside some trees and a pond. At the back of the Farmhouse there is a living area with a private parents space above. The living area is open to the surroundings on all sides.

We believe that this kind of openness with regard to heritage and tradition, allows us to discover a creative richness, full of great creativity, and this kind of creation of space gives our buildings durability and timelessness. We believe, that in this way, the buildings are not anonymous or unspiritual and that they are something more significant than just modern buildings.

Polish Barns
The newly designed „Polish Barns” have a unique shape, the form of which results from the reference to the existing farm layout, terrain, view axes, functional needs, division into residential zones and the location of trees that we tried to keep. Barn no. 1 is located at the entrance to the property and there is a garage with a gym above. We wanted to achieve a stunning effect by using only wood as the construction and finishing material. It is a barn that has a scent of wood and creates a new dimension of garage space. It is intended to provide the user with an authentic experience of an adventure consisting of entering a spectacular wooden space of a rural barn. Barn no. 2 is the entrance, which opens up with a glass facade to the adjacent courtyard and the Old House opposite. The glass facade has an openwork wooden translucent curtain in front of it, which relates to the original ornamental feature that decorates the entrance of the Old House. Barn no. 3 is the children’s zone and the centrally located main hall. Barn no. 4 has a kitchen that opens out to the courtyard and it has two study rooms located on the opposite side facing dense greenery and a pond. Barn no. 5 is a two level living space which opens up to the surrounding landscape, courtyard and the covered fireplace terrace. The entire glazed facade of the living room opens out to the openworks structure of a wooden, external terrace equipped with sliding external wall panels. It is an intentional replication of the original dismantled wooden barn which was originally located in this position. On the first floor there is a private bedroom with a pier attached, which leads to lakes and trees. With the attic we have created a small, intimate, private space.
The Old House
The Old House regained it’s original beautiful proportions by demolishing all the subsequent annexes. We have enhanced the entrance with a new roof, relating to the original wooden ornamentation of the historic facade. In the interiors of the house we unveiled the original building material – red brick to bring out it’s natural beauty. The reconstructed tiled heating stove is displayed in the main, two-level space covered with a wooden roof. What distinguishes this house is the lack of the fourth façade in the traditional manner. The fully glazed wall allows the structure of the house to be exposed to the outside and towards the fireplace terrace of Barn no. 5. The Old House is surrounded with colourful plants and flowers characteristic of this type of rural, historical building.

Architectural model of the Polish Farmhouse
The Farmhouse project was created simultaneously on a piece of paper, with a computer model and a physical model that evolved in our model shop. Thanks to all this, we have fully exercised the possibilities of perception and creation of space. First we created several sketch models depicting possible conceptual variants of building development and the a model of an existing site. Then we created the first working model for the preferred option. The second working model elaborated the adopted solutions and initiated further development directions, including the development of a varied topography. The final architectural model allowed us to check the final design solutions and it became the basis for the development of a unique graphic and video animated presentation. This all represented a useful tool for architects and engineers at subsequent stages of technical design development.

Architectural model of the Polish Farmhouse was shown on the award winning movie production ArchiPaper created by Unique Vision Studio.

ArchiPaper is a surrealist story about architecture created by Rafał Barnaś from Unique Vision Studio. ArchiPaper is a non-commercial, experimental, short animated film that tells a story about architecture in an unconventional way. The basis and starting point for this work was a physical model of a house designed by BXBstudio. The model was photographed and transformed into an image that teems with life, creating a leisurely-paced, surrealist story immersed in an abstract world, built solely out of paper elements. Operating with a typical means of expression and building a stylistically and compositionally coherent film was quite a challenge. ArchiPaper is thus an attempt at finding and testing new, atypical stylistic means in communicating architecture. Of note is also the fact that Rafał Barnaś is the sole author of the work, including its musical score.
