Interior design of The Little Eaves House

The interior of The Little Eaves House was designed with a harmonious interplay of indoor and outdoor space in mind. The key assumption was to create an exceptionally cozy and home-like place inspired by an old wooden cottage, which became the starting point for the form of the entire building. The whole is complemented by a subtle touch of modernityintroduced with sensitivity and respect for the idyllic character of the interior.

„In this house, nothing is accidental, even though my goal was to achieve the impression of carefreeness that we find in the inspiration – an old wooden mountain hut. Thanks to this, the house we designed creates a sense of home warmth, such as that found in traditional regional wooden architecture.”

Bogusław Barnaś

Different floor plan configurations

The central element of the space is a wall with a light form of shelvingwhose shelves emerge from between wooden slats. The arrangement of the slats changes gradually – from a whitesmooth wall in the lower part, through increasingly dense wooden strips, to a full covering of the surface with small plankswhich are naturally guided along the geometry of the rounded wall. The whole is complemented by a suspendedundulating chest of drawers finished in carved wood.

Referring to the rounded front wall, sofas with organic, soft forms were selected. In the same spirit, a coffee table and a planter were designed, which naturally fit into the calm, rounded character of the space. A distinct accent of the interior is a tall tree placed in a central planter on the coffee table – its presence emphasizes the proximity to nature and corresponds with the vegetation between the chests of drawers.

In the dining room, instead of classic chairs, wooden benches were used, serving as a nod to traditional Polish cottages.

Largerounded lamps hang over the living and dining areatheir composition fluidly guiding the gaze toward the mezzaninegradually decreasing in scaleAn integral part of the project is the spiral staircasewhich fits perfectly into the concept of the interior. Their external form was finished with structural plaster, consistent with the wall finishwhile the balustrade is formed by a rounded pane of glassgiving the whole a sense of lightness and modernityWooden steps warm the volume of the stairsintroducing additional depth and multi-dimensionality to the space.

The Little Eaves House project forms an extremely flexible space, which allows for the creation of diverse, original spaces that reflect the needs and expectations of their users.

In the second interior design of The Little Eaves House, materials used on the building’s facade were consistently applied in the living area. The characteristic black of the burnt board has its continuation in the material of the kitchen frontswhichthrough the applied closureconstitutes a uniform plane/continuation of the external wall.

A similar treatment was used in the case of the flooring – the terrace floor penetrates the interior and here, too, the consistency of the finishing material transition is maintained. The effect of unity between the external and internal space is completed through the subtle and conscious placement of plants.

Breaking the dark colors referring to the facade are accents of light upholstery on the sofa and armchairs, as well as light wood used for the furniture casing in the living room, in which the television is hidden. Carefully selected lamps, made of light, weightless materials, give interior transparency. The stairs leading to the bedroom area and the study have a very subtle, light, suspended structure, and in the study itself, a light color scheme dominates based on contrast.
